The Phish Studies Association is a scholarly collective exploring the band’s music, culture, and community through conferences, publications, and academic collaboration. PHEMA is proud to partner with Phish Studies to uplift research that deepens our understanding of the band and the scene around it. Since 2018, the Association has hosted two academic conferences—including their most recent in 2024—and continues to foster critical conversations and scholarship around all things Phish.
WHAT THEY DO:
ACADEMIC CONFERENCES
Phish Studies organizes multi-day academic conferences bringing together scholars, fans, and artists to present research and creative work on the Phish phenomenon—from setlist theory and fandom to social movements and soundscapes.
PUBLISHING + SCHOLARSHIP
Their work has contributed to peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and independent projects that advance Phish-related research across musicology, sociology, cultural studies, and more.
COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
The Association supports ongoing dialogue through panels, working groups, and networking among researchers, students, and fans interested in critical Phish studies.
