Phans for Racial Equity
A nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting racial equity and fostering an anti-racist environment within the Phish and broader jam band community.
About Phans for Racial Equity
In late 2017, a group of Phish fans united to address and take action against racial inequities within the music scene and beyond. Their efforts led to the formation of PHRE, which has since grown into a vibrant community committed to education, awareness, and activism. The organization became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2021 and continues to work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all fans.
What They Do
Educational Initiatives
PHRE offers resources and programs aimed at educating the community about racial equity. Their "Black Roots of Phish Music Series" explores the African American influences in Phish's music, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding among fans.
Community Engagement
The organization hosts events such as "Bouncing Around the Zoom," virtual meetups that encourage discussions on racial equity and community building. They also conduct "Tour Tabling, Meet Ups, and Lot Trainings" at live shows to engage fans directly and promote their mission.
Resource Provision
PHRE maintains the "Lizard Liberation Library," a collection of educational materials and resources focused on racial equity and anti-racism, accessible to the community to encourage continuous learning and reflection.
